FAQs
You've got questions, we've got answers.
What’s the difference between the Standard and Premium Roof Rack?
The Standard Rack provides a reliable, solid foundation at a great price. It features 15-series 8020 with an acrylic wind fairing. The 8020 comes in a standard black anodized finish, which can show wear over time, but rest assured, a few scratches won’t impact the rack's strength. The Standard Rack is a dependable, budget-friendly choice for those looking for simplicity and reliability.
The Premium Rack takes the strong foundation of the Standard Rack and adds stealthy side plates that cover the 8020 side rails, giving your rack a sleek, streamlined look. It also features a reinforced single-piece welded aluminum wind fairing, which is stronger and easier to install than the acrylic version. The 8020 bars are upgraded to a black powder-coated finish, offering better scratch resistance and long-lasting durability. The Premium Rack also includes double T-nuts that are pre-measured for easier installation, eliminating the chance of T-nuts flopping around or falling off during setup. Loctite is pre-applied to all necessary bolts, saving time and ensuring a more secure fit.
Additionally, the Premium Rack features internal channel splice plates for added strength and stability, minimizing interference with crossbars or solar panels. Drop slots on the 8020 bars allow for easy additions down the road. The rack now has a wider configuration, offering more flexibility for panels, decking, and customizations, while allowing for quicker and simpler installation.
Everything ships in a single box with upgraded packaging to ensure safe, intact, and timely delivery. The Premium Rack is the ultimate choice for those who want the best in durability, design, and ease of use, elevating your van setup to the next level.
Why can’t I place a Maxxfan or AC unit anywhere I want in the roof rack configurator?
We get it—customization is key. But we’ve built in some constraints to make sure you’re not accidentally cutting through your van’s structural ribs (which would be... not great). The configurator keeps your van’s integrity intact while still giving you plenty of options.
How much solar can I fit on my van's roof?
That totally depends on your van and what you need. If you're also adding a Maxxfan or AC unit, that changes things. Your best bet? Play around with our Roof Rack Configurator—it’ll help you figure out exactly how much solar you can squeeze in while keeping room for everything else.
Can I buy just the Premium wind fairing or side plates separately?
We don’t sell them separately since the mounting method is designed as a whole unit. The side plates and fairing bolt together, so slapping on just the fairing would take some serious modifications (and most folks don’t have an easy or affordable way to make that happen).
That said, we sometimes have returns or slightly blemished pieces in our Yard Sale section. If you’re looking for a deal, check that page out—never know what you might find!
What should I expect when installing my roof rack?
Installation times depend on which rack you’re putting together. Solo mission? Plan for about 4+ hours for a Premium rack and 2-3 hours for a Standard rack. Got a buddy? You can cut that time in half (or maybe even less if you’re a dream team).
Not feeling the DIY life? No worries! We’ve got a Find an Installer page where you can track down a pro to handle it for you.
