If you're anything like us, your camper van is more than just a vehicle – it's your cozy home on wheels. And let's be honest, spending quality time in your van requires comfortable and durable floors that can handle your adventures. So, let's dive into the nitty-gritty of flooring and make sure your van becomes the ultimate travel companion.

When Eric and I tackled our own flooring project, we took it step by step. Here's how we did it:

Step 1: Install Sound Deadening

Now, we have to admit, sound deadening isn't strictly necessary, but it definitely doesn't hurt.  Quieting down those noisy roads will make your journey all the more enjoyable. So, we decided to give it a shot. Less road noise means more peace inside the van.

Step 2: Install Insulation

We used 1/2" rigid foam board insulation (polyiso), but here's the golden tip – go for more if you can. Extra insulation is like a warm hug in winter and a cool breeze in summer.

Pro Tip: get crafty – use a cheap material to create a template and keep it for later. It'll come in handy when we hit step three.

Step 3: Install the Subfloor

For the subfloor, we went with high-quality plywood, at least 1/2" thick. Again, thicker is even better – it will give you a better anchor for your floor plan. And remember that template from step two? Use it to create a perfect fit for your subfloor.

Step 4: Install Your Flooring

The moment we've all been waiting for – the finished floor! We personally went with Home Depot lifeproof flooring, and are really satisfied. But you will need to pick a flooring compatible with your lifestyle, so explore flooring options. For example, we're snow-sport enthusiasts, so water-resistant flooring was a must for those snowy days.
